Sir: The ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has completed its five year tenure. The next general elections are just around the corner now. It is unfortunate however, that the PML-N has failed to address certain crucial issues during its tenure. These include load shedding, crime, corruption and water shortage. The question occupying Pakistani citizens’ minds right now is, can the ruling party introduce useful and sustainable reforms which will redress their problems? I remain sceptic as ever, because the political agenda and aim of all political parties is and has always been the same. Perhaps it would be best if the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan postponed the elections for a year so that our political elite can have some time to improve their moral character. Meanwhile, a temporary government should be established, and should be comprised of individuals known for their honesty and for being educated. Things cannot improve until status quo politicians can be shown a proper model for governance. RAJA GHAZANFAR ALI KHAN Rawalpindi Published in Daily Times, May 29th 2018.
