LAHORE: The health condition of injured Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal is improving day by day at the ICU ward of Services Hospital on Tuesday while the security outside and inside the hospital has been beefed up to provide foolproof security cover. Additional police personnel equipped with modern equipments have also been deployed at the hospital. A number of political leaders belonging to different parties including former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party’s Aitzaz Ahsan along with others visited the hospital to inquire the health condition of Ahsan Iqbal. While talking to media outside the hospital, political leaders and others strongly condemned the attack on Iqbal and said the accused had been arrested, whereas further investigation was underway. They said that a Joint Investigation Team investigated the issue at all angles for the arrested main culprit, facilitators and other persons. They added that JIT and other law enforcers would also observe the crime scene place. Medical Superintendent of the Services Hospital, Dr Ameer said that the interior minister was in a stable condition and is still under observation at ICU ward. He said that Iqbal would be discharged from the hospital in the next two or three days, adding that the medical teams have decided not to remove the bullet from Iqbal’s body as the procedure could create some complications. He explained that the bullet had fractured an elbow joint of the minister before landing into his abdomen. Services Hospital MS said although screening of vehicles and visitors was not an easy task for security guards and law enforcement agencies, saving precious lives was more important than any other thing. He said better coordination between law enforcement agencies and hospitals administration was also needed to counter any untoward situation. It is to mention that Iqbal received bullet injuries in the attack when he was going back after addressing the corner meeting at Narowal three days back. Published in Daily Times, May 9th 2018.
