KOLKATA: Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami was on Friday charged with domestic violence by the police, after his wife filed a complaint against him.
Days after going public about Shami’s affairs with other women, his wife Hasin Jahan filed a formal complaint against him.
Hasin Jahan complained that her husband had physically assaulted her, while she also shared several messages alleging Shami of having extra-marital affairs since their marriage.
“He tortured me physically and mentally over and over again. I managed to access the security code in his phone and saw (the) chats last night. I was shocked and could not sleep,” Hasin said.
“She has specifically complained about being tortured by her husband and in-laws, and about her husband having multiple extra-marital affairs,” Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathi said.
Shami, however, rejected the allegations via his Twitter account saying that whatever is being said about his personal life is ‘completely false’. He added that the allegations are a ‘conspiracy’ against him which aim to defame the Indian pacer.
Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) delayed the annual contract signing of the 27-year-old pertaining allegations of domestic violence against Shami.
