Sir: I have travelled a lot over the past few years, but I have never seen rules and regulations as pathetic as the ones which seem to be practiced by the authorities at the Sukkur airport. They have all the modern gadgets and machinery to check travelers at the airport, but the prefer to check people manually, making fun of them while they do it. They harass travelers who are not from Sindh and ask a number of useless questions which don’t have anything to do with their duties. I would like to ask the authorities at the Sukkur airport why they don’t check the so-called diplomats who use their airport. Instead of checking them, they salute them and act like their personal servants. Meanwhile, the common man is harassed, insulted and humiliated. They demand that common travelers take off their shoes, belts, jewellery and watches. If anyone asks what rule allows them to ask people to remove their personal belongings they present no satisfactory answer, some even saying that they don’t have all the rules written on a document. I want to tell the authorities at the Sukkur airport that Pakistan is for all, and that all are equal before the law. Nobody is superior or inferior in the eyes of the constitution. We should work for a modern and classless Paksitan. Civil aviation personnel should understand that their uniform means that they work for Pakistan. They should be respectful to all.
