Sahir Lodhi gives reason for children’s dance performances on his show

Published on: January 18, 2018 8:22 PM

Sahir Lodhi has just recently given a justification for children dancing to the tunes of vulgar and highly criticised Bollywood item songs, in a segment called ‘Dance Competition’ on his show Aap Ka Sahir on TV One.

Morning shows are known for having absolutely anything done as long as it is increasing their TRP. From fake marriages to gifting contestants a handful of airplanes as well as a couple of houses, they have done it all.

Latest news revolves around social media expressing its anger to kids not just randomly dancing to any song but songs systematically chosen for them, to which they had to rehearse to for performances in front of a live audience.

To clarify his misjudged line of stance in his show, Lodhi gave the example of a young boy named Sufiyan and his brother who were battling a major health issue that stunted their growth. Sahir explained that they danced in order to earn money for injections which would help them in their physical progress.

He also added that his show would carry out all medical expenses to help Sufiyan for the entire year.

Sahir’s justification came as a subtle message for everyone to understand that while some children dance because of passion, there were others who had to dance because it was their only source of income to fulfill their needs; this is being catered with the platform he is providing them.

Though Lodhi clarified the reason for young children’s performances on stage, he somehow failed to give a logical reason as to why they were made to dance on gaudy and distasteful tracks and choreography, owing to the likes of ‘Chikni Chameli’ etc.

Following the Kasur incident where 7-year-old Zainab was sexually abused, raped and thrown into a trash can, many parents and siblings have put their foot down in bashing the show for such indecent acts of display on national television, especially for that of girls who keep getting revealed as ‘eye candy’ and are put to risk in front of sexual, inhumane predators.

This really does make one wonder how careless the media can get only to protect their own selfish materialistic interests of viewership for their respective channels; they are willing to go to any extent.

Have a look for yourself:

Dancing, of course, is a beautiful expression of art, but is this really what our aesthetic definition has boiled down to?
