PIA post-Hajj flight delayed after technical fault

Published on: June 4, 2026 10:05 AM

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) post-Hajj flight from Jeddah to Karachi experienced a lengthy delay on Wednesday after a technical fault was detected in the aircraft shortly before departure.

The flight, carrying pilgrims returning home after completing Hajj, was scheduled to leave Jeddah Airport in the morning. However, the aircraft was forced to return from the ramp during pre-departure procedures when a technical issue was identified, preventing it from taking off as planned.

The unexpected delay caused inconvenience for passengers who had been waiting to begin their journey back to Pakistan. Many pilgrims remained at the airport for several hours as airline officials worked to address the problem and ensure the aircraft’s safety.

According to a PIA spokesperson, all affected passengers were shifted to the airport lounge while engineers conducted a detailed inspection of the aircraft. Technical teams were immediately assigned to diagnose and rectify the fault in an effort to resume operations as quickly as possible.

The spokesperson said the airline is prioritising passenger safety and that the aircraft will depart for Karachi once the technical issue has been fully resolved and all necessary safety checks have been completed.

PIA also issued an apology to passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by the delay. The airline acknowledged the difficulties faced by pilgrims, many of whom were eager to return home after fulfilling their religious obligations.

The spokesperson added that the airline’s senior management, including the chief executive officer and engineering teams, were closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to minimise the delay.

Technical inspections and maintenance checks are standard procedures in the aviation industry and are considered essential for ensuring safe flight operations. While delays can be inconvenient for travellers, airlines often prioritise resolving technical concerns before allowing an aircraft to depart.

As of Wednesday evening, officials said work on the aircraft was continuing and a revised departure schedule would be announced once the issue had been rectified.
