Welcoming the US delegation, Xi noted that China and the US are two major powers with a shared responsibility to maintain global peace, economic development and international stability. He said the world is closely watching the outcome of the Beijing talks amid ongoing tensions linked to the Iran conflict and disruptions in global supply chains.
Xi added that rapid global changes are reshaping the international order at an unprecedented pace, making cooperation between major nations increasingly important. He said both countries should focus on common interests rather than rivalry, adding that stable bilateral ties would benefit not only the two nations but also the wider world.
The Chinese leader also urged both sides to help each other succeed and prosper, saying collaboration would bring greater benefits than confrontation.
In his opening remarks, Trump described it as an honour to meet Xi and called him a friend, saying their relationship has remained strong over the years. He noted that he had brought “some of the world’s greatest business leaders” on the visit, underlining the importance of trade discussions.
