A flotilla carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza has departed from Barcelona in an attempt to challenge the Israeli blockade. The “Global Sumud Flotilla” consists of around 40 vessels and set sail after a weather-related delay, according to organizers. The mission aims to deliver aid and draw international attention to the situation in Gaza.
Organizers said the convoy is mainly composed of sailing boats, with additional vessels expected to join from France and Italy. Another group of about 20 boats had already departed from Marseille in early April. More ships are expected to join later from Sicily as the flotilla continues its route.

The convoy is scheduled to pause in southern Italy for about a week. During this stop, participants will undergo non-violence training sessions organized by the mission coordinators. The effort is being supported by pro-Palestinian activists from several countries.
Organizers said hundreds of activists from around the world are participating in the mission. They described the initiative as a peaceful effort to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza. The flotilla is intended to highlight international concern over the ongoing blockade.

A similar flotilla attempt in late 2025 was intercepted by Israeli naval forces. Activists aboard that mission were detained and later deported. Organizers say they remain committed to continuing peaceful humanitarian efforts despite past interceptions.
