Published on: April 12, 2026 3:35 PM

Sherry Rehman said both United States and Iran have expressed strong confidence in Pakistan by agreeing to hold direct negotiations in Islamabad, marking what she described as a historic diplomatic breakthrough. Speaking to the media, she said the development reflects Pakistan’s growing role in facilitating dialogue between major global powers. She added that the talks represent a significant shift toward diplomacy amid rising regional tensions.

Furthermore, she stated that Iran fulfilled its commitments despite initial concerns, which helped create conditions for meaningful engagement between the two sides. According to her, the willingness of both parties to participate in face-to-face talks in Islamabad shows strong trust in Pakistan’s diplomatic environment. She emphasized that this moment should be seen as a turning point in regional and international peace efforts.

In addition, Sherry Rehman said the world is closely watching developments in Islamabad, with many countries expressing hope that the negotiations will lead to progress. She noted that the recent ceasefire helped prevent wider escalation that could have drawn multiple regions into conflict. Moreover, she highlighted that Pakistan played a key role in creating space for diplomatic engagement at a critical time.

At the same time, she praised both delegations for showing readiness to come to the negotiating table despite complex challenges and ongoing disagreements. She stressed that maintaining the ceasefire environment is essential for building trust and ensuring continued dialogue between the parties. According to her, even small steps forward in such discussions are important for long-term peace.

Furthermore, she described the current diplomatic setting in Islamabad as positive and conducive for meaningful negotiations, with active participation from all sides. She urged both countries to continue giving each other space to ensure discussions remain productive and stable. She also noted that successful engagement at this level strengthens Pakistan’s international diplomatic profile.

Overall, Sherry Rehman concluded that reaching the negotiating table itself is a major success in a highly volatile global situation. She expressed confidence that Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue will be remembered as a key moment in international diplomacy. According to her, continued commitment to peace and dialogue will determine whether this opportunity leads to lasting stability.
