Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday held an important political meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), at his residence, as part of ongoing consultations among major political stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by senior PPP leaders, including Raja Pervez Ashraf, Nayyar Bukhari, and Chaudhry Yaseen. From the JUI-F side, Maulana Asad Mahmood also participated, while Senator Kamran Murtaza joined the discussions during the session.
According to sources familiar with the development, the two sides exchanged views on the evolving political landscape, focusing particularly on preparations and strategy for the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The leaders also discussed the possibility of broader political coordination and consensus-building amid shifting alliances.
The meeting comes shortly after Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s engagement with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where key national issues were deliberated. During that interaction, the PPP chairman reportedly presented his party’s recommendations on economic management, including proposals aimed at enforcing austerity and improving fiscal discipline.
Government officials said the discussion also covered Pakistan’s internal security situation and the broader economic outlook, with both sides emphasizing the need for collective political efforts to address ongoing challenges.
In addition, the leadership reviewed Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives concerning tensions in the Middle East, underlining the importance of a balanced and proactive foreign policy approach.
According to government sources, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared his party’s proposals regarding austerity measures and emphasized collaborative solutions to strengthen Pakistan’s fiscal policies.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, sources added, expressed support for the government’s handling of complex domestic and international issues and acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s role in steering the country through a difficult economic and geopolitical environment.
