A special ceremony was held at a government school in Shujaabad for children with hearing problems, where 90 hearing aids were given to 77 children.
The event took place at the Government Special Education School. Commissioner Multan Division, Amir Kareem Khan, handed over the hearing aids. These devices were arranged by the divisional administration with the support of Irteza Ali Qureshi, Managing Director of Pakistan Arab Refinery Company (PARCO).
As soon as the hearing aids were fitted, many children were able to hear sounds for the first time in their lives. The moment was very emotional. Parents became teary-eyed, while the children smiled with joy.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner said that a detailed medical check-up of children in special education schools across the division had already been completed. He said 3,030 children were tested, and 460 of them were found to have a chance to improve their hearing.
He explained that with the help of hearing aids, these children can not only hear better but may also learn to speak. This, he said, can bring a big and lasting change in their lives.
The commissioner added that the project was made possible with the help of donors and the business community. He especially appreciated PARCO for providing financial support.
He said that in the first phase, hearing aids are being given to children in different districts of the division. The programme will be expanded so that more children can benefit from it in the future.
He also asked more donors to come forward and support such efforts, saying that helping others is a source of true happiness.
At the end of the ceremony, the commissioner thanked teachers, the Special Education Department, and the administration for their hard work. Additional Commissioner Coordination Kareem Bakhsh and District Officer Special Education Zeeshan Ahmed were also present.
