Economic Sabotage in the Garb of Protest!

Published on: March 26, 2026 4:02 AM

March 26, 2026 by Hassan Shaikh

Ironically, PTI supporters living abroad continue to maintain the bleak track record of striking at the vital interests of the country. Qasim Khan , the UK based son of former PM Imran Khan is under criticism for joining the chorus of known anti-Pakistan elements. Pictures of Qasim with dubious characters like Arif Ajakia are viraling on social media. Saner quarters felt disappointed that why did son of a former PM joined hands with Arif who proudly toes the line given by RAW handlers. This seems that personal vendetta has taken preference over national interest . Blatant lobbying to strip Pakistan of GSP+ status is nothing short of economic sabotage. At a time when Pakistan’s economy is navigating a delicate recovery, any attempt to undermine its external trade privileges amounts to a direct assault on national interests. The reported call by the sons of Imran Khan to lobby for the revocation of Pakistan’s GSP+ status is not merely irresponsible – it is an act that places personal political motives above the economic survival of millions. GSP+ is not a symbolic concession; it sustains key export sectors, supports employment across industries, and anchors Pakistan’s access to European markets. Weaponizing it for political leverage, especially to seek relief for an individual facing legal proceedings, crosses every ethical, political, and national red lines. Such actions cannot be framed as dissent or advocacy. They represent a calculated attempt to externalize domestic political disputes at the cost of Pakistan’s economic stability, international credibility, and future prospects. This is not opposition politics – it is economic sabotage which no nation can afford to tolerate individuals who, in pursuit of narrow interests, actively lobby foreign actors to penalise their own country.

Millions of Pakistani livelihoods at stake – yet political heirs choose to weaponize Europe against their own country. From politics to treachery: inviting sanctions on Pakistan to rescue one individual exposes a dangerous mindset.

“GSP+ is Pakistan’s lifeline – not a bargaining chip for dynastic politics. Those who seek economic punishment for Pakistan have forfeited any moral claim to represent its people.
Calling for GSP+ revocation is not activism – it is hostility against Pakistan’s workers, exporters, and future. No political grievance justifies asking foreign powers to weaken Pakistan’s economic foundations. Criticism on Qasim is getting more intensified after he shared stage with notorious fugitive BNM leader Dr Naseem Baloch. Anti- state views of such characters are well-known and recent alignment of Qasim with controversial figures is not only damaging for the political credibility of PTI but equally disappointing for all concerned political experts. It is about time for saner quarters to make PTI leadership accountable for adopting anti-state tone in the support of imprisoned former PM.
