Punjab launches youth drug awareness initiatives

LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari on Wednesday said making Punjab drug-free is Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s mission. She emphasized that safeguarding students from narcotics is a shared responsibility. Authorities were urged to intensify operations and awareness campaigns to protect youth across the province.

During a visit to the Punjab Anti-Narcotics Force headquarters, Director General Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal briefed Bokhari on ongoing anti-drug operations and departmental performance. The meeting also included Punjab Information Secretary Tahir Raza Hamdani and Secretary Excise and Narcotics Masood Mukhtar. Bokhari praised the force’s efforts and described their performance as commendable.

The minister directed officials to organize awareness programs in universities and colleges to educate students on the dangers of drug use. She also stressed launching an effective social media campaign to spread awareness about narcotics’ harmful effects. These initiatives aim to strengthen preventive measures at the community and youth levels.

DG Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal presented commemorative shields to Azma Bokhari and Tahir Raza Hamdani, acknowledging their support for anti-drug campaigns. The gesture highlighted the government’s commitment to collaborative action against drug trafficking and abuse.

The Punjab government aims to combine enforcement, education, and outreach to curb narcotics. Bokhari emphasized that sustained efforts, public engagement, and community awareness are crucial to achieving a drug-free province.
