Karachi experiences rain, hail as weather improves

Published on: February 17, 2026 5:15 PM

Light to moderate rain and hailstorms hit various parts of Karachi on Tuesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported. The rainfall brought relief as the city’s weather turned pleasant, with showers recorded in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, University Road, Orangi Town, SITE Area, and Buffer Zone. Scheme 33 and surrounding areas also experienced hailstorms during the rain.

Strong winds accompanied by light rain were reported in Malir Halt, Rafah-e-Aam, and nearby neighbourhoods. According to PMD, intermittent light rain is expected to continue across the port city until this evening, providing temporary respite from previous heat and dry conditions.

A K-Electric spokesperson urged citizens to exercise caution when using electrical appliances during strong winds and rainfall. The official warned that using illegal electricity connections (kundas) can lead to fatal accidents and advised sharing safety measures with family and neighbours.

Power has been temporarily suspended in some low-lying areas as a precaution due to water accumulation. K-Electric said field staff are on high alert and closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and restore electricity promptly where needed.

Authorities reminded residents to avoid outdoor activities in areas affected by strong winds or hail. They also urged citizens to stay alert for updates from meteorological and utility services as rainfall continues across Karachi.
