PMD warns of wet, windy weather in Karachi

Published on: February 16, 2026 5:45 PM

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Karachi on Monday evening and Tuesday under a westerly wave. The port city is also expected to experience dusty winds that may reduce visibility. The advisory signals changing weather conditions across parts of Sindh.

According to the Met Office, rain of light to moderate intensity is likely in Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur and Karachi Division. The system is linked to a western disturbance approaching the country’s western regions. Its effects are expected to extend to Sindh through Tuesday.

The department said the weather system may bring brief thunderstorms along with rainfall in Karachi. Dusty winds are forecast to blow at higher speeds than usual. Authorities have cautioned that visibility could be affected at times, especially during gusty conditions.

Temperatures in the metropolis are expected to range between 17°C and 30°C over the next two days. Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh are likely to remain dry with cold nights. A slight drop in temperature is also anticipated in upper areas of the province.

Earlier, the Met Office predicted that the shallow westerly wave would reach western Pakistan by Monday evening. Under its influence, rain and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah and Qilla Saifullah through February 17. Officials advised residents to stay updated on weather alerts.
