CM Maryam orders tight Muharram security

Published on: June 15, 2026 6:38 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday ordered comprehensive security and facilitation measures for Muharram across the province. The decision is important as it aims to prevent security incidents during religious gatherings. Participants, law enforcement agencies, and the general public will be directly affected.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the chief minister directed all departments to strengthen surveillance and emergency preparedness. Moreover, she emphasized the use of real-time intelligence sharing to prevent any untoward incident. Officials were instructed to deploy additional personnel in sensitive areas identified as high-risk zones.

Furthermore, CM Maryam stressed the need for coordinated security arrangements involving police, intelligence agencies, and district administrations. She ordered CCTV monitoring of all major processions and majalis routes. In addition, she directed authorities to activate three-tier security systems and conduct combing operations across Punjab.

Meanwhile, the chief minister highlighted risks due to regional tensions and recent security incidents. She called for strict vigilance and training of field staff to identify suspicious activity. Authorities were also directed to improve coordination through control rooms linked with the Home Department.

In addition, Maryam Nawaz ordered public facilitation measures including water supply, heat protection, traffic management, and medical services along procession routes. She stressed respect for mourners and warned against negligence in safety arrangements. Officials were urged to adopt a proactive approach and ensure uninterrupted services throughout Muharram.
