LAHORE: A suspected serial killer, accused of abducting and murdering at least four people, was reportedly killed by gunfire from his own accomplices during an alleged encounter with the Gujranwala police on Tuesday.

According to a police spokesperson, the suspect had been in custody on physical remand while attempting to flee from Lahore to Karachi via train. The police were reportedly taking him to a location he had identified to recover a murder weapon when four unidentified armed accomplices intercepted the police team.

The spokesperson claimed that the accomplices opened fire in an attempt to free the suspect. However, the suspect was fatally shot by his own associates while trying to escape. The attackers fled the scene, and the suspect’s body was later transported to Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities have registered a case against the accomplices and launched an investigation into the incident.

Earlier, Gujranwala City Police Officer Dr. Ghias Gul stated that police had recovered two unidentified bodies — a 32-year-old woman and her five-year-old son — from the bank of a canal near Citi Housing Society on February 10. Both had been killed with a sharp-edged weapon.

The suspect, apprehended by a special investigation team, reportedly confessed to the murders, including the killing of the woman’s eight-month-old daughter, Mubara. He claimed the motive for the killings was to steal the woman’s gold earrings.

In addition, the suspect admitted to the December 20, 2025, murder of a 13-year-old boy from Mado Khalil in the Ladhewala police precinct. Police say the suspect was involved in multiple abductions and murders, establishing him as a serial offender.

The Gujranwala police have assured that they are pursuing the investigation vigorously, with a focus on apprehending the remaining accomplices involved in the incident.
