Sindh High Court (SHC) here Thursday sought comments from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in a petition filed by Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), challenging installation of dangerous billboards over high-rise buildings of Karachi. As per details, a division bench of SHC comprising Justice Abdul Mubin Lakho and Justice Muhammad Jaffar Raza heard the constitutional petition (2594/2025) filed by PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor. PDP lawyer Khurram Lakhani told media outside the SHC premises that different government departments appeared before the court on Thursday. However, the KMC maintained that the matter of billboards doesn’t directly fall in its dominion. The court asked the KMC to file its comments in this regard, saying who would be responsible if any of these loose-fitting billboards installed on high-rise buildings fall and result in damage to life and property. Instructing the KMC to file comments, the SHC adjourned the hearing to March 11, 2026. However, PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor said that the apex courts in previous cases had already banned loose-fitting billboards over the rooftops of high-rises, but this malpractice still continues as some black sheep in concerned government departments are involved in it. He demanded action against the elements involved in this malpractice to save the precious human lives. He said his party, PDP, would continue to raise a strong voice on civic issues facing the citizens.
