Pakistan on Thursday formally assumed the presidency of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) during its fifth General Assembly held in Kuwait, marking a significant milestone in the country’s expanding role in global digital governance.

The presidency was handed over at a ceremony attended by senior representatives from the organisation’s 16 member states. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja took over the leadership on behalf of Pakistan.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said Pakistan would prioritise joint global efforts in digital cooperation, cybersecurity, digital inclusion and artificial intelligence during its tenure. She emphasised that Pakistan’s leadership would focus on ensuring that the benefits of the digital revolution are shared widely, particularly among youth, women and developing economies within the DCO framework.

In a statement issued on the occasion, Ms Khawaja said Pakistan’s presidency reflected the country’s growing influence in international digital policy discussions. She added that the role would open new avenues for collaboration in emerging and advanced technologies, while strengthening partnerships among member states.
The Digital Cooperation Organisation serves as an international platform dedicated to enhancing cooperation in the digital economy, digital infrastructure development and data governance. Since its establishment, the DCO has aimed to create a more inclusive and sustainable global digital ecosystem by aligning the policies and strategies of its members.
Founded in November 2020, the DCO is the world’s first standalone intergovernmental organisation focused exclusively on the digital economy. Its mission is to promote social prosperity and economic growth by unifying member states’ efforts toward digital transformation and by safeguarding shared digital interests.
The organisation places particular emphasis on providing fair opportunities for countries, businesses and individuals to benefit from a cross-border digital economy. Empowering youth, women and entrepreneurs through innovation and technology remains central to its agenda.
