ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday confirmed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was briefly taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a minor eye procedure before being returned to Adiala Jail.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Tarar said eye specialists had initially examined Khan at the jail and recommended further assessment at PIMS. Acting on this advice, Khan was shifted to the hospital on Saturday night.
“At PIMS, the former premier underwent a 20-minute procedure with his written consent. His vital signs remained stable, and he was returned to Adiala Jail immediately after the procedure with medical instructions,” Tarar said.

The minister emphasized that Khan’s overall health remains satisfactory and rejected social media rumours suggesting serious illness. “He is absolutely healthy,” Tarar added, noting that all prisoners have access to specialist care as per jail regulations.
The statement comes after the PTI chairman, Barrister Gohar Khan, raised concerns over Khan’s health, claiming that neither the party nor family members had been informed about the hospital visit. PTI had earlier cited media reports suggesting Khan was diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition that can cause permanent vision loss if untreated.
However, Khan’s sister, Noreen Khan, dismissed these claims, insisting that her brother has no eye-related issues and alleging that misinformation was being spread deliberately.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 while facing multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

Tarar reiterated that the hospital visit was purely precautionary and medically advised, assuring that Khan remains under proper supervision and continues to receive required healthcare.
