Dense winter fog has once again disrupted road travel across Punjab, forcing authorities to close major motorways as visibility dropped to hazardous levels.
According to details, Motorway M-2 was closed for all kinds of traffic from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M-4 from Pindi Bhatian to Multan, M-11 from Lahore to Sambrial, and M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir.
Thick fog engulfed large parts of Punjab and adjoining regions, reducing visibility to near zero in several areas. and National Highway at Lahore, Manga Mandi, Phool Nagar, Jambar, Pattoki, Renala Khurd, Okara, Sahilwal, Chichawatni, Kiswal, Iqbal Nagar, and Mian Channu.
Traffic pressure increased on the National Highways due to the closure of Motorways.
Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, said that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious accidents. He emphasized that motorists must strictly adhere to lane discipline and avoid risky driving behaviors.
Authorities have advised road users to prefer traveling during daytime hours, noting that safer travel times in foggy conditions are generally between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Drivers have also been urged to use fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from speeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
The Motorway Police further advised citizens to remain cautious and patient until weather conditions improve. Motorists seeking guidance or assistance can contact the Motorway Police Helpline at 130.
Traffic authorities stated that motorways will be reopened once visibility improves and conditions are deemed safe for travel.
KSrelief commences winter kit distribution in KP: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has officially commenced the distribution of Winter Kits in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as part of its large-scale Winterization Initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable communities affected by severe winter conditions across Pakistan.
Under this initiative, KSrelief is distributing 4,000 Winter Kits across six cold and snow-prone districts of KP, including Lower Chitral, Upper Chitral, Upper Dir, Upper Kohistan, Mansehra, and Kurram. The district-wise distribution includes 800 Winter Kits each for Lower and Upper Chitral, Upper Dir, Upper Kohistan, Mansehra, and Kurram.
This KP-focused distribution forms part of KSrelief’s nationwide winter support program, under which 22,000 Winter Kits are being distributed across 28 of the coldest and most vulnerable districts in Pakistan. The initiative targets communities severely impacted by harsh winter conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as selected areas of Punjab and Sindh experiencing extremely low temperatures.
Each Winter Kit contains two polyester quilts, warm shawls for men and women, and winter clothing for both children and adults, ensuring comprehensive protection against extreme cold for beneficiary families.
To ensure transparency, coordination, and effective implementation, the project is being carried out in close collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department (RRSD) KP, local authorities, and Hayat Foundation.
Five injured in coaster accident near Darra Adamkhel
A passenger coaster traveling from Dera Ismail Khan to Peshawar on Friday met with an accident near Bazi Khel area of Darra Adamkhel leaving five people injured.
According to the rescue sources, the cause of the accident could not be ascertained. Upon receiving the emergency call, Rescue 1122 Kohat Control Room immediately dispatched a medical team to the site. The rescue team provided first aid to the injured on the spot before shifting them to Darra Adamkhel Welfare Hospital, Qasim Khel. The injured were identified as Bilal, 26, Suleman, 33, Bilal, 34, Ruslan, 34, and Zahir Khan, 25 years old, they added.
