The return of Afghan nationals from Pakistan is ongoing, with 275,183 people repatriated so far. The process has occurred in three phases. The authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure smooth and orderly returns across the country.
In the first phase from November 1, 2023, to February 14, 2025, 82,916 Afghans were repatriated. The second phase, from February 15 to August 31, 2025, saw 44,584 people return. Currently, the third phase is ongoing, with 147,683 Afghans repatriated so far.

During the third phase, the majority returned via the Chaman border, totaling 144,253 individuals voluntarily. Transit points across Sindh facilitated another 3,430 returns, including 2,455 illegal residents. Karachi alone saw 3,327 Afghans repatriated, including cardholders and proof-of-residence holders.
Smaller cities also contributed to the repatriation effort, with Hyderabad sending back 85 people, Shaheed Benazirabad 7, Sukkur 9, and Larkana 2. Camp-based operations in Karachi and Jacobabad processed thousands more. Authorities continue to coordinate among federal and provincial agencies for effective monitoring.

Exact numbers of Afghans still residing in Sindh remain unclear. Estimates range from 300,000 to over one million. Authorities are acting on reports to identify and repatriate all Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan illegally or without proper documentation.
