
China has reaffirmed its strong support for Somalia, stressing respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity during a high-level phone call held amid shifting diplomatic schedules this weekend.
During the conversation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that Beijing firmly backs Somalia’s unity, while also rejecting any actions that could undermine internationally recognised borders.

Furthermore, Wang criticised attempts by Somaliland to pursue independence through engagement with Taiwan, reiterating China’s consistent stance against separatism and external interference in African states.
The phone call took place while Wang was on an official tour of Africa, a long-standing annual diplomatic engagement that highlights China’s expanding political and economic ties across the continent.

Although Somalia was initially included in the itinerary alongside Ethiopia, Tanzania and Lesotho, the planned visit was postponed due to a scheduling adjustment, with Chinese officials maintaining that bilateral engagement remains strong and ongoing.
