The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a cold weather alert warning residents of Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat, and the Potohar region about severe cold conditions expected until January 16.
Authorities have circulated the advisory to multiple departments including tourism, education, health, agriculture, local government, and forestry, urging them to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety and readiness during extreme weather.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized that educational institutions must instruct students to wear suitable winter clothing and ensure classrooms are adequately heated to protect against freezing temperatures.
Hospitals and health centers have been directed to maintain sufficient stocks of medicines and ensure the availability of trained staff to handle potential cold-related emergencies, particularly in remote and mountainous areas.

The alert also highlighted an expected increase in fog and smog, which could reduce visibility on roads and highways, prompting authorities to advise drivers to exercise caution and follow safety protocols.
Local government and disaster management teams have been instructed to monitor vulnerable populations, including the elderly and children, and provide timely assistance to prevent health risks associated with extreme cold conditions.
