
Section 144 has been enforced in Murree to ensure public safety and maintain law and order ahead of New Year celebrations, according to the district police.
The District Police Officer (DPO) Murree said the restrictions will remain in force from December 31 to January 1, as the hill station prepares for a large influx of tourists during the holiday period. The move aims to prevent overcrowding, ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid any untoward incidents.

Under the restrictions, entry to Mall Road and GPO Chowk will be limited to families only. Individuals visiting without families will not be allowed access to these areas and have been advised to celebrate New Year festivities in alternative locations, including New Murree, Galiyat and other designated surrounding areas.
The DPO said that aerial firing, fireworks, consumption of alcohol and any form of disorderly conduct will be strictly prohibited during the enforcement of Section 144. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the restrictions.
Tourists have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, follow traffic regulations and comply with police instructions to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for everyone. The police have also advised visitors to use the emergency helpline 15 in case of any emergency or assistance.
Meanwhile, the district administration announced that Section 144 will also remain in force in Rawalpindi until January 1. During this period, security has been placed on high alert, with a complete ban on rallies, processions and public gatherings.
Authorities in Rawalpindi have further imposed restrictions on New Year’s night, banning all forms of gatherings, aerial firing and fireworks. Action will also be taken against the use of loud music systems, loudspeakers, hooliganism and dangerous activities such as one-wheeling.

Officials said the measures were necessary to ensure public safety and prevent law and order situations during the festive period, urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and within the limits of the law.
