GUJRAT – The University of Gujrat (UoG) Academic Council in its 28th meeting here at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Friday approved the new SOPs for implementing the Each One Teach One (EOTO) – the new initiative under the Prime Minister’s National Literacy Drive.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq, recepient of the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, presided over the meeting online, with Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt providing assistance in the proceedings.
The EOTO initiative makes it mandatory for every undergraduate student to teach an identified learner basic literacy and numeracy – a must for the conferment of degree.
The learner (preferably between the ages of 15 and 45, irrespective of gender) will be identified in consultation with and approval of the university’s designated focal person.
The EOTO activity will be integrated as a graded assignment with the mandatory course Civics & Community Engagement, carrying 10 marks for undergraduate students.
For graduate students, it will be mandatory but will be conducted outside their prescribed coursework.
The august house gave its approval to the items discussed in the previous meeting. The meeting was attended by deans, chairpersons, HoDs, and other senior academics. The council also granted approval to the Boards of Studies for various disciplines and teaching programs. In addition, amendments to the academic calendar of affiliated colleges under the term system were endorsed.
Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq stated that students are the main stakeholders of the university. Providing them with facilities at both academic and administrative levels and ensuring their welfare is our foremost responsibility. Every member associated with the teaching and administrative sectors of the University of Gujrat is entrusted with enhancing the abilities and competencies of students.
The meeting was attended by the deans of various faculties, the Controller of Examinations, chairpersons and heads of different departments, directors of administrative divisions and others. Additional Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Ms Zahida Azhar, joined the meeting online.
