LAHORE: Ongoing public and private sector development projects across Punjab, including Lahore, have come to a halt due to a wheel-jam strike by goods transporters, officials said on Sunday.

The strike has disrupted the delivery of construction materials such as cement and crushed stones from Sargodha and other cities, bringing construction work on roads, buildings, and other development schemes to a standstill for the past week. Authorities warned that the situation is worsening environmental issues, including dust pollution and smog.

“At present, work requiring concrete and other core building materials has stopped not only in Lahore but also in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Multan,” said a private builder. He added that the halt has created unemployment and urged the government to take swift measures to resolve the issue.
The Punjab Stone Transporters Association has refused to end the strike until their demands are met. These include the suspension of controversial clauses of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025, halting FIR registration against drivers, and easing fines and vehicle impounding rules. Khalid Arain of the association said they would only resume work once assurances are given to address their grievances.

Meanwhile, the annual Chrysanthemum Flower Show 2025 at Jilani Park continues to attract large crowds. Organised by the Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA), the event has drawn over 100,000 visitors over the weekend.

Featuring more than 200 varieties of flowers and thousands of artistically arranged flowerpots, the exhibition has transformed the park into a vibrant and family-friendly recreational destination.

PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmad said the flower show will continue until December 15 and has already welcomed over 1.5 million visitors this year, reflecting its growing popularity among citizens.
