Karachi has launched Pakistan’s first drone-based e-challan system, marking a major upgrade in traffic management under the Safe City Project, aiming to reduce parking violations with faceless enforcement across the city.
High-resolution cameras installed citywide have now been complemented with drones, enabling aerial monitoring of no-parking and double-parking zones, making enforcement faster, more accurate, and minimizing human intervention in traffic regulation.

In a joint operation by the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) and the Safe City Authority, drones surveyed Saddar and nearby areas, identifying vehicles in violation, which were subsequently fined for non-compliance.
DIG Traffic Peer Mohammad Shah said Karachi is the first city in Pakistan to adopt drone-assisted challaning, with new no-parking and double-parking signboards installed and actively monitored through aerial surveillance.

Authorities revealed that after the initial success, drone enforcement will expand to major commercial zones including Tariq Road and Rashid Minhas Road, enhancing traffic discipline and ensuring consistency in law enforcement.
Furthermore, officers are being trained to operate the system, while robotic “traffic cars” are expected to join the management system within two weeks to tackle persistent parking issues efficiently.
