University of Management and Technology (UMT) held its 28th Convocation on on Tuesday, at UMT Main Campus, Johar Town, Lahore.
A total of 4050 degrees were conferred across various disciplines. The breakdown is as follows: 3248 Bachelor’s degrees, 51 Master’s degrees, 693 MS/MPhil degrees, and 59 PhD degrees.
Additionally, several medals and awards were presented during the ceremony, including: 65 Patron’s Gold Medals, 65 Rector’s Silver Medals, 14 Rector’s Academic Excellence Awards (Gold), 11 Certificates of Excellence, 4 Certificates of Merit, 09 Research Publication Awards for MS/MPhil students, 2 Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad Medal Awards, 1 Khurram Murad Medal Award, 01 Mubarak un Nisa Medal Award, 01 Dr Muhammad Ahmed Medal Award, 2 Greenair Medal Awards, 1 Fast Excellence Award, 1 Fast Sustaibability Award, 01 Dr. Yasir Memorial Award, 04 Rector’s Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, 1 Best University Teacher Award, 10 Best School Teacher Awards, 03 University-Level Best Researcher Awards, and 1 School-Level Best Researcher Award.
The convocation was graced by Provincial Minister for Finance, Punjab, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, as Chief Guest. Other distinguished attendees included Chairman ILM Trust / Board of Governors and President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Rector UMT Air Vice Marshal (R) Dr Asif Raza, Chief Advisor UMT Lt General (R) Javed Hasan, Chairman LOTTE Chemicals (Pvt.) Ltd. Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Provost UMT Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi, Director General UMT Ahmad Abdullah, Director Research & Innovation Prof. Abid Sherwan, CEO FAST Cables Kamal Amjad Mian, along with registrars, controllers of examinations, deans, directors, graduating students and their families also participated.
Addressing the convocation, Chairman and President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad thanked the Chief Guest for his presence and congratulated the graduates, their families and faculty members on this momentous achievement. He urged graduates to always respect their parents and serve humanity, emphasizing that these values define true success. He stated that Pakistan’s greatest strength lies in its talented youth, who possess the potential to take the country to new heights of development and stability. He added that Pakistan is a land of immense opportunities and that with dedication and hard work, young people can achieve any goal. “Success ultimately comes from Allah, and hard work is the only path to reach it,” he added.
Ibrahim Murad further expressed that higher education is the strongest driver of societal development and under this vision, UMT is nurturing future leaders through education, training and character-building. He said that UMT is preparing youth for the demands of the digital era so they may effectively meet future economic and technological challenges. He highlighted that UMT has so far provided over Rs 16 billion in scholarships, reaffirming the university’s strong commitment to expanding access to higher education.
Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Provincial Minister for Finance, congratulated President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad on the successful convocation. In his address, he said that before me stand the future architects of Pakistan, equipped with the capability to steer the country toward progress. He stated that all policies of the Punjab Government are focused on empowering youth through education, training and skills development. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to fully support young people under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Punjab, noting that extensive practical measures are being taken to promote educational and economic progress across the province. He further expressed that the Chief Minister Education Endowment Fund and Scholarship Program is a landmark initiative, ensuring that no talented student is deprived of education due to financial constraints.
Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Chairman LOTTE Chemicals (Pvt.) Ltd., congratulated the graduates, their parents and the UMT faculty on their success. He praised UMT’s academic services, quality education and commitment to continuous improvement, describing the university’s educational efforts as truly commendable. He also lauded President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad’s leadership, stating that his vision and effective governance have established UMT as a credible and leading institution in higher education. He advised graduates to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and modern competencies and to serve Pakistan’s progress with integrity, dedication and professional excellence.
Rector UMT Air Vice Marshal (R) Dr Asif Raza, in his address, congratulated the graduates, their parents, and teachers on this proud achievement. He acknowledged the vital role of parents, stating that students’ success reflects their vision, hard work, sacrifices and prayers. He reminded graduates that by earning higher education degrees, they now belong to the fortunate seven percent of Pakistanis who have access to university education. He urged them to respect their parents and teachers, whose guidance made this success possible. He further highlighted that in just 35 years, UMT has achieved remarkable milestones and earned recognition as Pakistan’s number one private university. He expressed confidence that UMT graduates would continue to bring pride to their country and their alma mater through their character, competence, and professionalism.
During the ceremony, Provincial Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, alongside President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, distributed degrees, medals and cheques among gold medalists and PhD scholars. At the conclusion of the event, President UMT presented a souvenir to the Chief Guest in appreciation of his participation.
