Commissioner Musarat Jabeen has directed the Agriculture Extension Department to actively mobilize its officers and field staff to promote maximum wheat cultivation across the division. She emphasized that guiding farmers during the “Grow More Wheat Campaign” is essential for increasing per-acre yield, ensuring food self-sufficiency, and strengthening the national economy. She expressed these views while presiding over the fifth review meeting of the “Grow More Wheat Campaign.” Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr. Farhan Farooq, Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Jameel Ghori, Chief Engineer Irrigation, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Shafiq, and Director Crop Reporting Service Islam Shah attended the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Zaheer Anwar Jappa and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhon, along with Deputy Directors Agriculture from both districts, joined via video link.
Commissioner Musarat Jabeen instructed the officers from the Agriculture and Revenue Departments to provide farmers with proper guidance regarding the cultivation of wheat on both government and private lands. She further directed Agriculture Extension officers, staff, and agricultural graduates to educate farmers on the use of certified seeds and balanced fertilizers to ensure the achievement of set targets. She also stressed the need to inform farmers about government initiatives aimed at improving the agriculture sector so they can fully benefit from these welfare measures.
During the briefing, Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Jameel Ghori informed the Commissioner that wheat cultivation has already been completed on 2.396 million acres in Bahawalpur Division, while the Agriculture Department Punjab has set a target of 2.683 million acres for the region. The Commissioner instructed all three Deputy Commissioners to ensure the immediate completion of this target. She also directed the Director Cholistan Development Authority to maximize wheat cultivation across the Cholistan region. Commissioner Musarat Jabeen noted that ample stocks of certified seeds and fertilizers are available in the district, and the Agriculture Extension teams are actively guiding farmers throughout the sowing season.
