Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar formally inaugurated the Sindh Police Games 2025 at the Police Headquarters Garden South. On this occasion, Sindh Police presented a vibrant fireworks display. The opening ceremony was attended by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, Chairman Sindh Police Sports Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, along with a large number of senior police officers. During the ceremony, the police bands delivered impressive and captivating performances, while the participants warmly welcomed this peaceful and well-organized sports event. The Sindh Police Games began in a secure, peaceful, and sports-friendly environment.
Chairman Sindh Police Sports Board / DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and informed that a total of 12 contingents are taking part in 18 different sports competitions. For these events, 13 sports venues have been allocated. Moreover, 1,547 players and more than 180 police personnel are participating. For outstanding performers, 900 medals and 78 trophies have been designated. The Sindh Police Games include athletics, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, taekwondo, jiu-jitsu, and various other competitions aimed at promoting healthy activities, teamwork, discipline, and mutual cooperation among police personnel.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar stated that the Sindh Police Games symbolize the physical and mental strength of the police force. He noted that sports not only contribute to building a healthy society but also serve as an effective means of promoting endurance, unity, and teamwork within the force. The Home Minister appreciated all officers involved in the successful organization of the event and expressed hope that the Sindh Police Games will continue to be held annually in an even better manner. This magnificent beginning of the Sindh Police Games not only lifts the morale of the force but also represents a significant step toward promoting sports and positive activities across the province.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Home Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the public has witnessed the performance of the police in the past and continues to do so today. However, the police are now providing public services more effectively than ever before. He added that the Sindh Police Games reflect this positive and dynamic face of the police. The Minister congratulated IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon and Chairman Sindh Police Sports Syed Pir Muhammad Shah on the successful organization of the event, appreciating the commendable efforts of Sindh Police.
In his remarks, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the government aims to revive sports grounds, as healthy activities not only nurture positive thinking among youth but also strengthen social harmony. He further said that the situation in Karachi has improved significantly, allowing major sports events and matches to be held regularly – a clear sign of the city’s peace and stability. The Home Minister emphasized that the public must also encourage the police, as the force sacrifices their lives and performs duties even under the most challenging circumstances. He proposed expanding the scope of the Sindh Police Games by including special sports quotas for boys and girls so they too can actively participate in healthy activities.
The Sindh Home Minister, promoting sports strengthens tolerance, teamwork, and positive behavior within society. He expressed hope that the Sindh Police Games will not only promote fitness and a sports culture within the force but will also expand further in the coming years. IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, addressing the opening ceremony of the Sindh Police Games 2025, said that organizing such events is a symbol of a healthy and disciplined force. He shared that he had given his team the task of holding this event annually, and the remarkable enthusiasm witnessed today is a testament to the efforts of Chairman Sindh Police Sports Syed Pir Muhammad Shah.
The IGP added that this event is being held after 14 years – the last Sindh Police Games were organized in 2011. He noted that around the world, forces are given annual time-off, and those who do not take it often struggle with mental health challenges. Despite varying crime challenges in Punjab, Sindh, the Sindh Police has demonstrated exemplary performance. He noted that over the past three years, Operation Clean-Up has continued across Karachi and Sindh. All agencies worked collectively and achieved significant results.
He said the police played an active role in operations, displayed aggressive policing where needed, and eliminated all no-go areas without fear for their own lives. Referring to crime statistics, he said street crime in Karachi has decreased by 30%, violence during crimes has reduced by 60% and kidnapping for ransom has almost vanished.
IGP Sindh, said that all these achievements are the result of the police force’s tireless efforts.
