RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi police have formed a special task force to apprehend Afghan nationals residing illegally in the district and transfer them daily to holding centres for repatriation, following concerns over poor performance in previous operations. The task force consists of 13 teams, each comprising six personnel including police officers, detectives, and officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department, Security Branch, and Special Branch.

Team in-charges, including Mohammad Saifullah, Waqar Haider, and Shafiqul Hasnain, have been instructed to submit daily reports to the chief security officer of their respective divisions. Senior police officials directed that members of the special units focus exclusively on this task and not be assigned other duties.

During recent operations over the past two days, the combined efforts of Rawalpindi police, Special Branch, CTD, and City Traffic Police led to the detention of 92 Afghan nationals. Eight cases were registered against landlords and tenants who failed to register their tenancy details. Officers conducted inspections of 1,123 houses, 336 shops, 49 hotels, and two inns, checking a total of 1,524 individuals across multiple areas, including Kallar Syedan, Rawat, Gujar Khan, Chontra, Dhamial, Mandra, and Pirwadhai.

Meanwhile, a separate incident of violence occurred in the RA Bazaar area, where Adalat Khan, a resident of Tehsil Havelian, Abbottabad, was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle riders while travelling on Ghaziabad Street. Police have launched an investigation into the murder, while operations continue to strengthen law and order in the garrison city.

The special task force reflects the local administration’s renewed focus on ensuring security, enforcing legal residency requirements, and maintaining peace in Rawalpindi.
