Multiple uplift projects underway in Karachi at a rapid pace: Memon

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has stated that multiple major projects for urban development are underway in Karachi at a rapid pace. Nine major projects are being completed in the city at a cost of 7.66 billion rupees, 76 KDA projects worth 13.22 billion rupees are ongoing, while KMC is spending 18.36 billion rupees on 200 projects. KW&SC and the Lyari Development Authority are also working on multiple projects. The Hub Canal and Dumlottee water pipeline projects will be completed within a year and will supply 10 MGD of water to DHA. Under foreign funding, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project Phase I is being completed at a cost of 25.47 billion rupees, and Phase II will renovate Karachi’s old water and sewerage system for 167.10 billion rupees. The CLICK and SWEEP projects are also moving forward to modernize waste and water systems in the city. He said that the Sindh government is also taking significant steps in the education sector. In the current financial year, work is ongoing on the completion of 1,280 educational units under 130 schemes, with an estimated cost of 15.57 billion rupees and 1.88 billion rupees already released. 12.33 billion rupees are being invested in 30 districts for the rehabilitation of flood-affected schools, while under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) program, 20 girls’ schools in five districts have been upgraded from primary to elementary level. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that under the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, 117 new secondary schools are being built and 2,630 teachers are being trained, while 528 schools have been upgraded with eco-friendly technology. He said that under the Sindh Early Learning Enhancement Program, 21,500 teachers in 13,000 schools across 12 districts have been trained, and the Student Attendance Monitoring and Redress System (SAMRS) have been introduced in 600 schools. In the College Education sector, multiple new projects are in the tendering and initial implementation stages to provide a safe, modern, and inclusive educational environment for every child. He further added that in the local government sector, special attention is being given to the immediate completion of water, sanitation, and infrastructure projects. The development plan for 2025-26 comprises 756 schemes, including 713 ongoing, 17 carried forward, and 43 new schemes. Last year, 424 schemes were completed to improve the urban infrastructure and services of the province. Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that all these initiatives of the Sindh government are being undertaken to improve the lives of the people, enhance the quality of education, and modernize urban facilities.
