The District Judicial Complex remained closed on Wednesday following the suicide blast outside the Islamabad District Courts.
The District Bar Association had advised lawyers, litigants, and clerks to stay away from the premises for safety reasons.
District Bar President Naeem Gujjar, along with other office-bearers, urged lawyers to stay home and pray for Advocate Zubair Aslam Ghumman, who lost his life in the explosion.
The Bar Association announced a three-day mourning period and a one-day strike, while the Islamabad Bar Council separately declared a three-day strike over the incident.
The suicide attack outside the district courts claimed the life of Advocate Ghumman and injured several lawyers, litigants, and other individuals who remain under treatment. Due to the strike and security restrictions, public entry into the complex was completely barred.
Court staff postponed all scheduled hearings and issued new dates, which were displayed on notice boards outside the courts. Litigants were instructed to appear on their next assigned dates. More than one thousand cases were adjourned without proceedings. Security was tightened around the complex, and only judges were allowed to enter the premises as the legal community mourned the loss of their colleague.
Hearings in cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers linked to the “Haqeeqi Azadi March” were postponed on Wednesday as the Islamabad District and Sessions Court remained closed. The cases, registered at Bara Kahu Police Station, include Imran Ismail, Aamir Kayani, and several PTI workers among the nominated accused. Due to the court’s closure, no proceedings were held in any case scheduled for the day. Lawyers representing both sides were informed about the next hearing dates. The court has now fixed November 17 for the next hearing of the PTI march-related cases.
