Ducky Bhai case update: Court grants three-day physical remand of cybercrime officers

LAHORE– A local court on Tuesday approved a three-day physical remand for several officers of the National Cyber Crime Agency (NCCA) who were arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on bribery and corruption charges related to the Ducky Bhai case.

In a three-page written order, Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo detailed the accusations and evidence presented by the FIA, stating that the suspects face charges of fraud and embezzlement totaling Rs 42.548 million. The FIA had requested an extension in their remand to gather additional documents and evidence.

According to the court order, substantial sums were recovered from the accused, including Rs 700,000 from Arslan Raza, Rs 9.9 million from Zawar, Rs 1.948 million from Yasir, Rs 360,000 from Mujtaba Zafar, Rs 4.5 million from Muhammad Usman, and Rs 300,000 from Salman Aziz.

The case originated from a complaint filed by Aroob Jatoi, who alleged that Rs 9 million was paid as a bribe to officer Shoaib Riaz, while Rs 500,000 was allegedly given to Chaudhry Sarfraz Ahmed. The court observed that the case involves two key aspects — one concerning direct bribery allegations and the other tied to a broader corruption network within the NCCA.

The FIA informed the court that the accused possess assets beyond their known sources of income and that statements of several victims are still pending due to holidays and ongoing recoveries.

The court directed that any future remand requests must be justified by investigative progress and verifiable evidence, while ordering the FIA to complete verification of all complainants’ statements within the granted remand period.
