Pakistan and Türkiye discussed new opportunities in maritime cooperation on Thursday. The talks focused on joint ventures in shipbuilding and a possible ferry service. Both countries aim to strengthen economic ties and enhance regional connectivity through sustainable initiatives. Officials emphasized that these collaborations could benefit both nations’ blue economy sectors.
Federal Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said Pakistan is keen to work with Türkiye in shipbuilding, port development, and shipbreaking. He invited Turkish private investors to explore projects at Gwadar Port, which holds “immense potential for maritime industries.” The minister highlighted Gwadar’s role in transforming Pakistan into a modern logistics and trade hub.

Turkish Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu expressed interest in strengthening cooperation and said the ferry service proposal would be discussed with relevant Turkish authorities. He noted that the service could promote tourism, facilitate affordable sea travel, and improve people-to-people connections. Uraloglu announced that a Turkish delegation of shipowners and port service providers would soon visit Pakistan.
Chaudhry welcomed the Turkish delegation and assured full support for their visit. He also highlighted fisheries prospects, including a 25,000-ton tuna quota. He encouraged Turkish investors to set up value addition and canning plants to target lucrative export markets. Plans for a major maritime conference within three months were also announced.
