Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s attempt to extend its so-called “sovereignty” over parts of the occupied West Bank. The statement came after Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, gave initial approval to a bill proposing the application of Israeli laws in the occupied territory. The move follows two new bills passed by Israeli lawmakers aimed at annexing parts of the West Bank. It came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump helped broker a peace agreement to end the two-year-long war in Gaza.
In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said it “strongly condemns” Israel’s expansion of its so-called sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territories, including illegal settlements. The ministry said such actions represent a blatant violation of international law, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. It warned that these illegal and provocative measures undermine ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan urged the international community to take “immediate and decisive action” to stop Israel’s unlawful steps. The statement also called for holding Israel accountable for its repeated violations of international law. Pakistan reaffirmed its firm commitment to protecting the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination. It stressed that Pakistan will continue to work with regional and global partners to ensure peace, justice, and dignity for Palestinians.
The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. It emphasized the need for an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital. The ministry said this remains the only path toward a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the U.S. also expressed concern over Israel’s annexation plans. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Israel against proceeding with the move, saying it could endanger the Gaza peace deal. He stated that the U.S. cannot support any annexation attempt at this time. Rubio added that such actions threaten regional stability and peace efforts but expressed hope that the recent peace agreement will continue to hold.
