The United Kingdom has deployed a small number of military planning officers to Israel to join a US-led task force aimed at supporting stabilisation efforts in Gaza, the Defence Ministry confirmed. The officers have been embedded within the Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC), a newly formed body created to ensure post-conflict stability following the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The deployment, which includes a two-star British deputy commander, highlights the UK’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with international partners in pursuit of long-term peace in the region.
The CMCC, led by the United States, is designed to help secure Gaza and coordinate humanitarian and reconstruction efforts after months of intense conflict. However, the structure, responsibilities, and legal framework of the force are still under discussion among participating nations. The United States has pledged to contribute up to 200 troops to the initiative, though they will not be deployed inside Gaza itself. Meanwhile, Washington is in talks with countries such as Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Azerbaijan to join the coalition and strengthen its operational capacity.

In a statement, the UK Defence Ministry said the deployment was made to ensure Britain remains fully involved in the U.S.-led planning for Gaza’s post-conflict recovery. It emphasized that the UK continues to support diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to maintain the ceasefire and promote regional peace. British officials believe that early involvement in the stabilisation framework is essential to help prevent future escalations and ensure the effective delivery of aid and reconstruction projects in war-affected areas.
Defence Minister John Healey reiterated that the UK would not take a leading role in the mission but would contribute expertise and experience where needed. He stated that Britain has “specialist experience and skills” that can enhance the operational planning of the task force, particularly in peacekeeping and post-conflict reconstruction. Healey also confirmed that the decision to deploy officers came in direct response to a request from the United States, underscoring the deep military and diplomatic coordination between the two allies.

The renewed diplomatic engagement follows increased mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to solidify the initial truce between Israel and Hamas. These discussions form part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan, which aims to secure lasting peace and begin rebuilding Gaza’s devastated infrastructure. As international partners intensify coordination, the UK’s limited but strategic contribution signals its intention to play a constructive role in shaping Gaza’s future stability.
