Exciting contests mark day two of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy third round

Islamabad’s Shamil Hussain struck a fine century on the second day of the third round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, but his effort could not prevent Abbottabad from taking control of the contest here at the Margalla Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Abbottabad, resuming their first innings, posted a commanding 437 with Yasir Khan leading the charge through a brilliant 185. Mohammad Nadeem picked up three wickets for Islamabad.

In reply, Islamabad were bundled out for 228, with Shamil Hussain making a patient 100, while Israr Hussain returned figures of 4- for Abbottabad, who closed the day at 45 for one in their second innings.

At Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Peshawar, Karachi Blues were dismissed for 207 against FATA, as Shahid Aziz claimed five wickets for 45. Abdullah Fazal top-scored with 67 for Karachi Blues. FATA ended the day at 56 without loss in their second innings.

At Diamond Cricket Ground, Islamabad, Lahore Whites managed 235 in their first innings against Sialkot. Haseeb-ur-Rehman scored 40, while Mohammad Hasnain took four wickets. Sialkot reached 29 without loss at stumps.

At Abbottabad Stadium, Multan was 445 for seven in their first innings against Faisalabad, with useful contributions from Imran Rafiq (70), Waqar Hussain (67), Sharoon Siraj (64) and Arafat Minhas (52 not out).

At Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, Peshawar compiled 278 against Bahawalpur, with Waqar Ahmed (71), Mohammad Haris (70) and Niaz Khan (61) featuring prominently. Imran Randhawa bagged five wickets for 87, while Sufiyan Muqeem took four.

Bahawalpur, in reply, reached 218 for seven, with Mubashir Khan scoring 64 and Saad Khan 61. Iftikhar Ahmed took three wickets for Peshawar.
