Sindh launches province-wide anti-dengue, malaria drive

Published on: October 17, 2025 10:39 PM

On the directives of Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, a large-scale awareness and prevention campaign has been launched across Sindh to curb the spread of dengue and malaria.

According to the Health Department, the Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) Wing of the Directorate General Health Services (DGHS) Sindh has issued urgent directives to all District Health Officers (DHOs), local government institutions, and relevant departments to intensify preventive measures on an emergency basis.

Dr Azra Pechuho stated that “The Government of Sindh has mobilized all its resources to control dengue and malaria. Over 200,000 malaria and 819 dengue cases reported across Sindh this year. Spraying, fogging, and awareness programmes must be conducted daily in every district. Public cooperation is essential to overcome dengue, everyone must play their part.”

Larvicidal operations, fogging, and awareness campaigns have already been initiated across all districts. Banners, pamphlets, and information materials are being displayed prominently at hospitals, schools, markets, bus stands, and courts to educate the public on preventive steps.

All DHOs have been instructed to coordinate with local governments to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, ensure cleanliness in homes and streets, and prevent water stagnation. Lady Health Workers have been tasked with conducting door-to-door awareness sessions at the community level.

Dr Pechuho further emphasized that “Dengue is a preventable disease. With proper hygiene and precautionary measures, this outbreak can be controlled swiftly. Health teams are working around the clock to protect citizens.”

The Health Department Sindh added that the situation is being monitored daily, and preventive activities – including spraying and fogging – are being further intensified in affected areas.
