Shehbaz, Abbas hail Gaza truce in Sharm El Sheikh talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Sharm El Sheikh on the sidelines of the regional peace summit. The two leaders held a warm and informal discussion ahead of the formal signing of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain also joined parts of the meeting, adding diplomatic weight to the dialogue.

President Abbas thanked Pakistan for its consistent political and diplomatic support to the Palestinian people. He expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s principled stance at international forums and its solidarity during difficult times. Both leaders reaffirmed the strong historical and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Palestine.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the resilience and courage of the people of Gaza in the face of immense hardships. He acknowledged their sacrifices and called the ceasefire a vital step towards long-term peace and development in the region. The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The leaders expressed satisfaction over the Gaza ceasefire agreement and viewed it as a positive step for regional stability. They hoped the truce would lead to meaningful progress in rebuilding Gaza and achieving Palestinian statehood through peaceful means.

This high-level meeting reflected Pakistan’s active diplomatic role in supporting peace in the Middle East. It came just hours before the signing of a broader regional peace document, which involved leaders from over 20 countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and the United States.
