Hamas has called on U.S. President Donald Trump and international mediators to ensure Israel does not resume military action in Gaza. The appeal came shortly after Trump confirmed that the war in Gaza had officially ended. Hamas welcomed this statement but stressed the need for continued oversight to prevent future attacks.
Speaking to AFP, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem urged all mediators to monitor Israel’s behavior closely. He warned against renewed aggression and asked global powers to guarantee that the fragile ceasefire is respected. Hamas emphasized that protecting civilians must remain a priority as the peace process unfolds.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the release of hostages a chance to end the Gaza conflict permanently. In a post on X, he urged both sides to honor the ceasefire deal and fulfill their commitments. Guterres said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza must end, and all international efforts should aim to reduce civilian suffering.
Under the agreement announced on October 9, Hamas will release all Israeli hostages, while Israel will withdraw its forces to pre-agreed lines. The deal also includes a prisoner exchange: Hamas will release 20 live Israeli hostages in return for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The agreement came after significant mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye.

Leaders from over 20 nations have gathered, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Trump. A “historic peace document” is expected to be signed, paving the way for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
