PIA restarts direct flight operations to Canada

Published on: September 30, 2025 10:41 PM

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially resumed its flight operations to Toronto, Canada, after a temporary suspension that lasted more than two weeks due to essential aircraft maintenance. The airline confirmed that its first Karachi-Toronto flight successfully departed this week, signaling a return to normal schedules and renewed connectivity between Pakistan and Canada. The decision to restart flights comes as welcome news for thousands of passengers who rely on PIA for direct travel between the two countries.

The suspension was originally imposed on September 13 when the airline grounded flights over technical reasons linked to maintenance checks. During this period, passengers faced delays and had to make alternate arrangements, leading to inconvenience for both business and leisure travelers. However, the airline has assured that the necessary work has now been completed, making aircraft fully operational and ready for safe international travel. This development highlights PIA’s efforts to maintain safety standards while addressing passenger concerns about reliability.

In addition to the Karachi-Toronto route, PIA has also announced that a Lahore-Toronto flight is scheduled to depart on October 2. This step demonstrates the airline’s commitment to gradually restoring its full schedule of long-haul flights to North America. Toronto has consistently been one of PIA’s busiest international destinations due to a large Pakistani diaspora living in Canada, and the resumption of flights is expected to ease travel for families and students alike.

Moreover, the airline emphasized that operations are being resumed with a focus on punctuality and efficiency, aiming to rebuild passenger confidence after weeks of disruption. Officials noted that flight schedules are being closely monitored to avoid further delays and ensure smooth operations. With international competition rising, PIA is under pressure to demonstrate consistency and reliability, especially on long-haul routes that carry both financial and strategic importance for the carrier.

The resumption of Toronto flights also comes at a time when global air travel is experiencing steady recovery, with airlines worldwide increasing frequencies to meet demand. For Pakistan, restoring connectivity with Canada is particularly significant given the volume of passengers traveling for education, work opportunities, and family reunions. With flights from Karachi already underway and Lahore scheduled next, PIA aims to fully restore its Canadian operations while reassuring travelers of its commitment to safe and timely service.
