Islamabad, Sept 26: Moderate earthquake tremors were felt across several parts of Pakistan on Friday morning, causing panic among residents in northern and central regions, ARY News reported, citing the Seismological Center.
According to initial data, the quake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale at a depth of 195 kilometers, with its epicenter located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.
Residents in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Upper Dir, Bisham, Attock, and Chitral reported feeling the shocks. The tremors were also experienced across parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This is the second significant tremor in September, following earlier jolts that struck Islamabad, Punjab, and KP, where the National Seismic Monitoring Centre had recorded a quake originating from the Hindu Kush at a depth of 111 km.
Experts warn that Pakistan remains vulnerable to frequent seismic activity due to its location near the collision zone of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
No casualties or damage were immediately reported.
