Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon has ordered an inquiry into four DSPs over serious allegations of misconduct. The officers face charges including land grabbing, smuggling facilitation, extortion, and links to the parking mafia. DIG Tanveer Alam Odho has been appointed as the inquiry officer, with a report due by September 26.
The DSPs under investigation are Aurangzeb Khattak (Sohrab Goth), Asif Munir (Kalakot), Shabbir Ahmed (Kharadar), and Zafar Iqbal (Eidgah). Khattak allegedly aided smuggling and grabbed land, while Munir reportedly extorted drug dealers and parking mafias. Ahmed and Iqbal are accused of collecting illegal payments from vendors and operating unlawful parking schemes.
The inquiry follows earlier action by the Sindh police to curb corruption. Earlier this year, IG Memon suspended 50 officers, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, across Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas. These suspensions targeted officers accused of corruption and patronizing criminal elements.
Suspended officers were transferred to the Police Headquarters South Garden’s “B Company.” Inspector Amir Rafiq from Karachi East Zone was also suspended and transferred amid the crackdown. These steps reflect a renewed effort by Sindh police leadership to address misconduct and restore accountability within the force.
The Sindh police misconduct inquiry highlights the IG’s commitment to transparency and discipline. The outcome of this probe could lead to strict actions and reforms within the province’s police ranks.
