The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to immediately halt the collection of August 2025 electricity bills in flood-affected areas, calling it a timely and crucial relief measure for millions of families and businesses struggling to recover from the devastating floods.
Chairman Faheem ur Rehman Saigol, Senior Vice Chairman Nasrullah Mughal, and Vice Chairman Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry praised the government’s directive to electricity distribution companies to adjust any payments already made by flood-affected consumers in the upcoming bills. They emphasized that this step provides immediate financial respite to households and enterprises, allowing them to redirect resources toward urgent recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
“PIAF commends the federal government for taking decisive action to ease the burden on flood-affected citizens,” Saigol said. “In times of such unprecedented devastation, halting electricity bills is a practical and compassionate measure that directly benefits millions, from families to small and medium-sized businesses struggling to stay afloat.”
The leadership highlighted that the floods have displaced millions of people and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, farms, and infrastructure. They noted that while the electricity relief is a positive first step, more comprehensive support measures are needed to help communities rebuild and stabilize their livelihoods.
Nasrullah Mughal emphasized the importance of ensuring that electricity relief reaches every affected consumer, particularly small businesses and vulnerable households. “Prompt and transparent implementation of this relief will help stabilize livelihoods and allow business owners and farmers to focus on rebuilding operations disrupted by flood damage,” he said.
Vice Chairman Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry stressed the need for coordinated action between federal and provincial authorities. He suggested that electricity relief be complemented with broader support programs, including targeted financial assistance, subsidies, low-interest loans, and infrastructure rehabilitation. Such measures, he said, would accelerate recovery and restore confidence among businesses and farming communities in flood-hit areas.
PIAF also welcomed the government’s plan to finalize a comprehensive relief package in consultation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The leadership highlighted that this package should take into account the full spectrum of losses in affected areas, including business, agricultural, and trade-related damages, to ensure a sustainable and inclusive recovery.
The forum called for a special focus on small and medium enterprises, which form the backbone of local economies and employ thousands of people. By providing timely financial support and operational assistance, authorities can prevent further disruption to livelihoods and economic activities in flood-affected regions.
In addition, PIAF encouraged close collaboration between government bodies, trade associations, NGOs, and international partners to ensure that relief is efficiently distributed and reaches the communities that need it most. They emphasized that effective coordination and transparent oversight are essential to maximizing the impact of government interventions.
The leadership also highlighted the importance of long-term measures to build resilience against future natural disasters. Investments in flood-proof infrastructure, improved electricity distribution systems, and contingency planning for businesses and farms could reduce the impact of similar crises in the future.
Concluding their statement, Saigol, Mughal, and Chaudhry reaffirmed PIAF’s readiness to support government initiatives for flood relief. They welcomed the electricity relief announcement as a significant step in alleviating the immediate hardships faced by citizens and businesses, while urging authorities to continue expanding measures to ensure a full and sustainable recovery across affected regions.
“PIAF appreciates the government’s swift response and stands committed to assisting in every possible way,” the leadership said. “We hope that this relief effort is the first of many steps toward restoring normalcy and confidence for flood-hit families, businesses, and communities.”
