President, PM hail September 6 as day of courage and resolve

Published on: September 6, 2025 12:00 PM

ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that September 6 remains a golden chapter in Pakistan’s history.

In his Defence Day message, President Zardari said the spirit of sacrifice from 1965 is an eternal light that continues to guide future generations. He stressed that no challenge can divert Pakistan from the path of dignity and sovereignty. He added that, like in 1965, the armed forces once again demonstrated dedication during the recent Battle of Truth.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also marked Defence and Martyrs Day by calling September 6 a day of bravery, unity, and determination. He said the indomitable spirit of 1965 is still alive, and once again, during recent challenges, the armed forces and people stood together like an iron wall. He praised the unmatched professionalism of the army, navy, and air force, while stressing the importance of strengthening Pakistan’s defence in light of Indian provocations and regional realities.

The armed forces also paid rich tribute to martyrs. According to ISPR, Army Chief General Asim Munir, along with the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, naval and air chiefs, honored the sacrifices of martyrs and their families. ISPR emphasized that September 6, 1965, symbolizes Pakistan’s unshakable resolve, when soldiers and citizens stood together against a numerically and militarily stronger enemy and foiled its designs.

ISPR further noted that the courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s heroes left an everlasting mark, proving that a united nation can never be defeated. The legacy of martyrs and veterans will always remain alive, serving as a guiding light for generations. The armed forces reaffirmed their sacred duty to defend the homeland, promising to respond decisively to any attempt to sabotage peace. They also pledged continued support to citizens in times of disasters, including ongoing flood relief efforts.
