China announced on Friday that it will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, aiming to strengthen regional stability and cooperation among its members.
More than 20 world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, are expected to attend the summit, making it the largest gathering of the security bloc since its founding.
Leaders from member and guest countries such as Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam will participate, alongside heads of international organisations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, further emphasizing global engagement.
China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin said the summit will provide a platform to respond to unpredictable global challenges, stimulate cooperation, and promote collective development while opposing hegemonism and power politics.
Liu highlighted that certain countries continue to prioritise their own interests, threatening world peace and stability. He added that stronger solidarity and cooperation among nations are essential to maintain harmony and development.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver keynote speeches at the summit, noting that the SCO has created a model for regional cooperation and a new type of international relations suited to current global trends.
