Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected PTI leader Omar Ayub’s bail requests today. The cases relate to the Jinnah House attack, Askari Tower assault, and burning of Shadman police station. The court held hearings on these cases and made its decision after reviewing all arguments. Omar Ayub’s interim bail had expired before today’s hearing.
Omar Ayub did not appear in court and his lawyers requested exemption from attendance. They explained he received a 10-year sentence and filed for protective bail in Peshawar High Court. His lawyers said he cannot attend court without protective bail.
Despite these reasons, the court dismissed the exemption request and all bail applications. The ATC stressed that convicted criminals must surrender in court. It also ruled that protective bail is not available for those already sentenced.
Moreover, the court clarified that accused individuals cannot file appeals before surrendering. This decision highlights the court’s firm stance on punishing convicted terrorists. Omar Ayub must surrender immediately to begin serving his sentence.
This ruling follows earlier verdicts sentencing Omar Ayub and 195 others for their roles in the May 9 violence. The court’s strict decision reinforces its commitment to justice and law enforcement. The dismissal sends a clear message against acts of terrorism.
