Pakistan successfully launches remote sensing satellite with China

Published on: August 1, 2025 3:51 PM

Pakistan has successfully launched its remote sensing satellite into space with China’s support, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space exploration journey. The satellite, launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center, has now entered its designated orbit. According to the national space agency SUPARCO, the PRSS-1 satellite was lifted into space using the Kuaizhou-1A rocket at 10:00 AM Chinese time.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal confirmed the satellite’s successful entry into orbit. Meanwhile, a SUPARCO spokesperson stated that this satellite will enhance Pakistan’s space research and strengthen its position in Earth observation technology. Notably, the satellite will contribute to many areas, including urban planning, disaster response, environmental protection, and food security.

In addition, SUPARCO highlighted that the satellite will offer advanced imaging services to support climate monitoring, water resource management, agricultural mapping, and tracking deforestation. This launch is a result of strong cooperation between SUPARCO, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and Microsat China. The project reflects the growing technological partnership between both countries.

The satellite will also boost modern agriculture, monitor infrastructure and urban expansion, and help improve regional planning efforts. Moreover, it will support disaster response by offering early warnings for floods, landslides, and earthquakes. It will also monitor glacier melting and forest cutting, aiding in environmental conservation.

SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousaf Khan emphasized that the satellite will support multiple sectors aligned with national priorities. It is also expected to help with sustainable socio-economic development. Additionally, it will assist with major national initiatives like CPEC by helping map transport networks and detect natural hazards.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the chief guest at the launch ceremony, praised the event as not just a technological success, but also a moment that uplifts national pride and deepens friendship with China. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated SUPARCO and Pakistani scientists, expressing pride in the country’s scientific capabilities and thanking the Chinese partners for their collaboration.
